Green Mountain Energy Company Teams Up With Community Leaders in Dallas and Houston to Address Issue of Air Quality
Green Mountain Energy Company, Mothers for Clean Air in Houston and Sustainable Dallas have teamed up on Earth Day up to encourage individuals in Texas to help reduce air pollution. Texas Beer Hauler Does Its Part for Clean Air
Silver Eagle Distributors, based in Houston, TX, was recognized at a special event as a Clean Air Leader by the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) and US Rep John Culberson (R-District 7) for being the first privately owned fleet in Texas to convert to clean diesel technology. Corpus Christi, Texas Receives All-America City Designation 2003
Corpus Christi, Texas is one of 10 in the nation and the only city in Texas to boast the All-America City designation in 2003. Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce Chairwoman Carol Scott said the city's clean air program was a clinching factor in the city's award. Read more about Corpus Christi and this award online.
H-E-B
As part of their many efforts to help keep the environment clean, H-E-B has converted 20 of their fleet trucks in Houston to liquefied natural gas (LNG), and dozens more will follow. This effort is reducing over 80,000 lbs of NOx and particulate matter from the air. Besides helping to clean the air, these LNG trucks are also helping to reduce dependence on foreign oil because liquefied natural gas is produced in Texas. H-E-B truck drivers report that their cleaner burning trucks run quieter, need less maintenance and have just as much, if not more, power than traditional trucks.
Houston-Galveston Adopt-A-School Bus Program
A collaboration between government, the corporate sector and the community to improve air quality in the Houston-Galveston area, the Adopt-A-School Bus program is focused on providing financial support to independent school districts in Harris County and seven other surrounding counties - Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Liberty, Montgomery and Waller - for public school bus replacement. Houston's 30 Best Workplaces for Commuters
Just as many companies offer health insurance to promote their employees' well-being, they should provide commuting benefits to help reduce stress, traffic congestion and air pollution, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Companies that won the distinction range in size from 17 employees to 16,000 and include several Texas Medical Center hospitals, government agencies and oil companies.

The Sierra Club recently awarded Toyota its "Excellence in Environmental Engineering" award for Toyota Prius, the car they are calling the "First Green Family Car." The award highlights Toyota's commitment to designing and building vehicles of the highest standards, while developing technologies that are more efficient and environmentally conscious.
